Taiwan-headquartered Synology is expanding its India enterprise strategy around AI-ready storage and data management infrastructure, as organisations increasingly grapple with the challenge of managing and operationalising massive volumes of unstructured data for AI workloads.
The Taiwan-headquartered storage and data management company said its enterprise sales in India have recorded sustained growth over the last five years, driven largely by government departments and public-sector organisations. The company is now preparing to launch new high-performance NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) systems and upgraded data protection appliances for Indian enterprises in June 2026.
The upcoming portfolio includes updated PAS series enterprise storage systems and the latest version of Synology’s ActiveProtect data protection appliance line.
The announcement comes amid a broader transformation underway in the enterprise infrastructure market, where storage vendors are increasingly repositioning themselves as AI infrastructure enablers rather than traditional hardware providers. As enterprises scale generative AI, inferencing, analytics and automation workloads, demand is rapidly shifting toward high-performance storage architectures capable of handling distributed and unstructured data environments with lower latency and stronger data governance.
Industry analysts note that enterprise AI deployments are exposing major bottlenecks around data movement, storage performance and cybersecurity. This is particularly significant in markets such as India, where enterprises are accelerating digital transformation initiatives while simultaneously navigating data localisation requirements, rising cyber threats and growing AI adoption.
“When it comes to AI transformation, Indian enterprises need more than just storage — they need an end-to-end infrastructure that supports every step of the AI journey, from edge data collection to core processing,” said Asta Liang, Country Manager – SAARC at Synology.
“They are no longer asking how much data they can store, but how much of their data they truly control, and how quickly they can put it to work,” Liang added.
AI Push Reshaping Enterprise Storage
Synology said it is embedding AI capabilities across its product portfolio with the goal of helping enterprises make unstructured data more usable for AI applications and AI-driven workflows.
The company said enterprises are increasingly facing “data gravity” challenges as AI adoption scales globally. According to research cited by Synology, around 88% of companies have already introduced AI into daily operations, but only 6% are seeing meaningful business impact.
A major reason, the company argues, is that nearly 90% of enterprise data remains unstructured — including emails, documents, video, logs and images — making it difficult and expensive to move, process and operationalise efficiently.
The challenge is becoming increasingly important as AI models move closer to real-time enterprise deployment. Industry experts say the next phase of enterprise AI growth will depend less on model experimentation and more on the ability to build scalable data pipelines, governance frameworks and AI-ready storage infrastructure.
That shift is also redefining the role of enterprise storage providers.
Rather than functioning purely as storage vendors, companies are increasingly positioning themselves as infrastructure partners supporting AI deployment, cyber resilience, data governance and distributed compute environments.
Global enterprise infrastructure players including Dell Technologies, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, NetApp and Pure Storage have also been expanding AI-focused infrastructure offerings as enterprise demand shifts toward AI-native architectures.
Synology said its India strategy for 2026 will focus on delivering “AI-ready, secure and simple-to-manage infrastructure” for organisations of varying scale.
Government, PSU Demand Driving Growth
The company said Indian customers currently span media organisations, manufacturers, financial institutions, government departments and public-sector undertakings.
The strong traction among government and PSU customers also reflects the increasing focus on sovereign data management, cybersecurity and local infrastructure control across India’s public sector ecosystem.
Synology indicated it would continue investing in system-level protection, backup and recovery capabilities as ransomware, cyberattacks and AI-era security risks become more sophisticated.
