CXO Cyber Street: From HDFC AMC to THORChain, Cyber Attacks Escalate Globally

From financial services to critical infrastructure and crypto platforms, cyber threats continue to intensify globally. CXO Cyber Street tracks key incidents—from HDFC Asset Management Company containing a cyber event to breaches at Grafana Labs and THORChain—alongside rising attack volumes, with India facing significantly higher threat levels than the global average.

HDFC AMC Contains Cyber Incident

HDFC Asset Management Company reported detecting a cybersecurity incident over the weekend and has since activated its internal response protocols to contain the threat, according to an exchange filing.

“While the detailed assessment is ongoing, based on the initial assessment, the incident is unlikely to affect the continuity of our business and operations and there doesn’t appear to be any material impact on the company’s operations,” the asset manager said in the filing.

The incident was detected on Saturday, prompting the company to immediately initiate measures to isolate the threat and mitigate potential cyber risks.

In April last year Nippon Life India Asset Management Ltd. Had reported that their information technology infrastructure suffered a cyberattack on April 9 that led to the partial closure of their online platform.

Hackers Breached Tank Readers at US Gas Stations

According to CNN, US officials believe hackers linked to Iran may be behind a string of breaches targeting systems that track fuel levels in storage tanks at gas stations across several states, according to sources familiar with the matter

The attackers reportedly exploited unsecured automatic tank gauge (ATG) systems that were accessible online without password protection. This allowed them, in some cases, to manipulate display readings—though not the actual fuel levels—highlighting vulnerabilities in poorly secured industrial control systems.

THORChain Hit by $10 Million Exploit

More than $10 million has been stolen from cryptocurrency platform THORChain following a security incident early Friday morning.

The breach was first flagged by blockchain security firm PeckShield and crypto investigator Zachary Wolk.

THORChain’s native token RUNE price plunged into double digits.

THORChain soon confirmed the incident, stating that trading had been temporarily halted after one of its vaults was compromised.

“Trading on THORChain is currently halted after a vault was compromised. Initial indications are user funds are safe and only protocol owned funds are affected,” a statement from the company said. “The network automatically detected abnormal behavior and halted signing activity, which alerted the broader community and prevented further outbound transactions.”

Observability Giant Grafana Labs Breached, Extortion Attempt Fails

A threat actor infiltrated Grafana Labs, the company behind the open observability cloud.

A threat actor breached Grafana Labs’ GitHub environment and stole a privileged token, enabling access to its private codebase. The attacker later attempted to extort the company with a ransom demand that went unanswered.

“We recently discovered that an unauthorized party obtained a token with access to the Grafana Labs GitHub environment, enabling the threat actor to download our codebase,” the company said in a tweet on X.

Mor than 35 million users and 7,000+ customers – including Anthropic, Bloomberg, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Salesforce – trust Grafana Labs to ensure reliability of their applications and systems, resolve incidents quickly, and optimize their telemetry to reduce noise and cost.

“Our investigation has determined that no customer data or personal  information was accessed during this incident, and we have found no evidence of impact to customer systems or operations,” Grafana said.

Cyber Attacks Surge Again; India Faces Higher-Than-Global Threat Levels

Cyberattacks picked up pace again in April 2026 after a brief slowdown in March, with organizations worldwide facing an average of 2,201 attacks per week—a 10% month-on-month increase and an 8% rise year-on-year, according to data from Check Point Research.

India continued to face significantly higher pressure than the global average, with organizations experiencing over 3,300 cyberattacks per week over the past six months. This far exceeds the global weekly average of 2,064 attacks per organization, underscoring the country’s elevated threat landscape.
